Hike and Wildlife Observation
Within a few days at Kasiiya, our senses are attuned to the tropical dry forest of Guanacaste. This slice of paradise is a refuge for animals during the long dry months, a refreshing oasis of blue and green for us.
The day begins at about nine in the morning driving though villages of the descendants of the Chorotega tribe. Two and a half hours later, we reach the entrance of the Sensoria nature reserve. From here our private guide will lead us along a hiking trail. We trek through pristine and ancient forests with our eyes peeled for the elusive tapir.
Under the lush décor of endemic orchids and centennial trees, we enjoy a delicious mid-morning snack prepared by our chef. We reach the blue waterfalls of Sensoria and behold the natural thermal springs, where a warm and curative dip is highly recommended. On the journey back we are given the choice of prolonging the adventure with a tour of the nearest village to enjoy fresh tropical fruits or returning to the blissful comforts of Kasiiya.
Board a small boat along the Tempisque River. There are so many birds. Sometimes it is even overwhelming! Imposing scarlet macaws, roseate spoonbills and jabirus will fly so close, you will want to touch them.
The Guanacaste lowlands and pasture fields are an intrinsic element of Costarican idiosyncrasy. The cattle, the rivers, the Liberian full moon, the sabaneros (cowboys) have been an inspiration since ancient times for popular music, stories and local legends. You will feel all these at Palo Verde, an ecosystem full of crocodiles, iguanas, monkeys, bats, anteaters and jaguarundi felines.
After the river tour, you will experience the plainsman culture of Guanacaste and the heritage of the Chorotega culture. We will visit the town of Guaitil, home of the production of polychrome ceramics inspired by the prehispanic Chorotega culture, which is one of the most important legacies of the native indigenous cultures.

Hiking and Hot Springs
A couple of years ago Arenal Volcano used to be highly active, tucked in the middle of the rainforest. Now, less active it's still a magnificent scene to visit due to its imposing cone shape figure, the rainforest views, rich landscape and thermal water attractions.
The volcano is located in the vast Arenal conservation area and stands out from kilometers away, surrounded by protective lush vegetation. It is a haven for more than 500,000 acres of rainforest filled with rivers, lakes and old volcanic lava fields in the northern highlands of Costa Rica, in the town of La Fortuna.
During your journey from Kasiiya to La Fortuna you will drive around Arenal Lake, the biggest landlocked body of water in Costa Rica (85 sq kms). This lake is of great importance to the country since it´s the biggest hydroelectric dam in Costa Rica, producing 12% of the total renewable energy. Besides bringing breathtaking views, the lake is a very popular destination for fishing, sightseeing boat rides and a world-class location for wind & kite surfing during the windy months of December to March.
Here, we´ll visit a private organic farm, walking through the fields of this plantation, where tropical birds take flight and you will learn about the tropical produce they grow. You also learn how sugar cane is processed at the trapiche (sugar mill). Lunch will be served at the farm. Later, we´ll visit the hot springs tucked in the middle of the rainforest, experiencing a peaceful and lush setting.

Private Cattle Farm and Wildlife Observation
Horseback riding at a real working Guanacaste cattle ranch (hacienda). This Costa Rican family-run cattle ranch is 100% off the grid, located in the mountains between Miravalles Volcano, Tenorio Volcano, and its extensive National Park.
The 2000 hectares Hacienda is dedicated to raising and breeding Brangus and Brahaman cattle, with more than 1300 heads. Visitors can join the “sabaneros”, our cowboys, while they herd and work the cattle. Another one of the Haciendas most important activities is to protect 700 hectares of primary and secondary forest, where animals such as pumas, jaguars, sloths, monkeys, toucans, and many more species live. This is a fun way to get to see most of the farm. The Hacienda has beautiful trails and also “pampa” for those who want to canter. Horseback ride for 2 ½ hours.
